ART: Charlie Calder-Potts
Solo Exhibition from 13th November 2013– 5th January 2014
Charlie Calder-Potts will be presenting a collection of new work inspired by her recent trip through Georgia, Armenia and Eastern Turkey. Charlie, a British artist based in Paris works with mixed media on paper and sheet metal to dramatic effect. Her recent travels have provided new environments with varied histories and cultures. New subjects inspired by this trip form the basis for her recent work and build further on previous ideas from past series. Charlie is fascinated by our relationship with our environment and the people who surround us - in particular cultural foundations that cause us to be either an ‘outsider’ or ‘a part’ of an environment /community. Her work explores the idea of displacement. We can be surrounded by people and feel totally isolated, often due to our own internal restrictions. She has broached the idea of displacement in many different ways over the last four years and has found it to be a subject that holds a variety of truths in diverse contexts. Charlie has exhibited widely in the UK, Hong Kong, New York, Amsterdam, Singapore and France. This is the first time that Charlie Calder- Potts’s work will be shown in the Middle East.
This exhibition will be hosted by ikonhouse and will run from 13 November 2013 - 5th January 2014.
In line with the increasingly popular ikonhouse Design Talks, Charlie will be present on the opening night to make a small presentation about her travels and what inspires these unique works.
13th November from 7-9pm at the ikonhouse skowroom
Informal Presentation at 8pm
