CH24 Wishbone Chair in Ancient Oak - Limited Edition
To celebrate Hans J. Wegner’s 104th Birthday on 2nd April, Carl Hansen & Søn has unveiled and updated one of the designer’s most iconic pieces: the CH24 Wishbone Chair, renewed with a specially developed Ancient Oak finish.
Inspired by the beauty of thousand-year-old peat bog oak, Carl Hansen & Søn set about recreating the incomparable depth and warmth of this rare wood. Using a combination of modern treatments and natural dying techniques that take several weeks to complete, the prestigious Danish manufacturer has mastered the art of making a Wishbone.
Inspired by a portrait of Danish merchants sitting in traditional Ming chairs, the classic chair is characterised by its distinctive Y detail. Offering back support, stability and a unique aesthetic, the chair’s gently rounded top rail and wonderfully sculptural shape allow for freedom of movement and superior comfort.
With a seat beautifully hand-woven from 120 metres of paper cord, more than 100 production steps are taken to craft this exquisite chair. Finished with a brass plate engraved with Wegner’s signature, this special edition chair is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from the Carl Hansen & Søn workshop.
The driving force behind ‘Danish Modern’, Wegner’s innovative designs altered the public’s view of furniture throughout the 1950s and 60s. Known as the ‘Master of the Chair’, his partnership with Carl Hansen & Søn began in 1949 and continues to this day, with the iconic Wishbone having been in continuous production since 1950.
